Our Commitment

The Environmental Impact Review Board (EIRB) is committed to providing an EIRB Registry that is accessible and usable for all people, including persons with disabilities.

The Registry supports public access to information and participation in environmental impact review proceedings. We recognize that meaningful participation depends on users being able to obtain information, use Registry services, and communicate with the EIRB in ways that meet their accessibility needs.

Our Accessibility Approach

The EIRB works to improve the accessibility and usability of the Registry on an ongoing basis. In developing and maintaining the Registry, the EIRB considers recognized digital accessibility practices, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Our accessibility objectives include:

• providing clear and consistent navigation;
• supporting keyboard navigation and commonly used assistive technologies;
• using meaningful headings, labels, link text, and alternative text where appropriate;
• presenting content with readable text and sufficient colour contrast;
• making forms and interactive features understandable and operable; and
• identifying and addressing accessibility barriers as the Registry evolves.

Documents and Third-Party Content

The Registry may contain documents submitted by developers, government organizations, community organizations, technical experts, participants, and other parties. It may also contain historical records created before current accessibility practices were adopted.

Some third-party, historical, scanned, map-based, or technically complex materials may not be fully accessible. If you cannot access a document or need information in another format, contact the EIRB. We will work with you to understand the barrier and identify a reasonable way to provide access, where practicable.

Request an Accommodation

You may request an accommodation if you experience difficulty accessing Registry information or services, or if you require support to participate in an environmental impact review process. You do not need to use special wording when making a request. Tell us what information or service you are trying to access and what type of support would help you.

Examples of accommodation requests

Alternative formats

• An accessible PDF or Microsoft Word version of a document.
• A large-print version of a notice or document.
• A plain-language summary, where available.
• An audio or other accessible electronic version of key information, where available.
• A screen-reader compatible version of a document or form.

Communication and navigation support

• Communication by email, telephone, or another accessible method.
• Help locating a public notice, submission, decision, hearing record, or other Registry material.
• Assistance understanding how to navigate the Registry or use an online form.
• Written instructions or responses in an accessible format.

Assistive technology and digital access

• Help accessing content using a screen reader, magnification software, speech recognition software, or keyboard-only navigation.
• An alternative way to obtain information or complete a step when a technical accessibility barrier prevents use of the Registry.

Participation in proceedings

• Accessible copies of hearing notices, procedural documents, agendas, or participation instructions.
• Communication supports or an alternative method for making a submission.
• Additional time to review accessible materials or provide comments, where reasonable and permitted by the applicable process.
• Other reasonable support needed to participate in a meeting, hearing, or consultation activity.

Language, literacy, and cultural accessibility

• Help identifying translated or plain-language materials that are available.
• Support connecting with available interpretation, community, or cultural resources, where appropriate.
• An explanation of Registry information or process steps in a clearer format.

Other accessibility needs

If the accommodation you need is not listed, contact the EIRB. We will consider the request based on the user's needs, the information or service involved, and what can reasonably be provided within the applicable review process.

How to Make a Request

To help us respond, please provide as much of the following information as you are comfortable sharing:

• your name and preferred contact method;
• the webpage, document, form, proceeding, or Registry service involved;
• a brief description of the accessibility barrier;
• the format, communication method, or other accommodation that would assist you;
• any relevant deadline or proceeding date; and
• whether you need help identifying a suitable accommodation.

Please do not provide medical records or more personal information than is necessary to explain the accommodation you are requesting.

Accessibility Feedback

We welcome feedback about the accessibility of the Registry. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please tell us:

• the address or title of the webpage or document;
• what you were trying to do;
• what difficulty you experienced;
• the browser, device, or assistive technology used, if relevant; and
• your preferred method of contact.

Response and Continuous Improvement

The EIRB will review accessibility requests and feedback and will make reasonable efforts to respond promptly. The time and method required may depend on the nature of the request, the format of the source material, and any applicable procedural requirements or deadlines.

Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility. The EIRB will continue to review the Registry, address identified barriers, and improve accessibility as standards, technology, and user needs evolve.
